His work is
an enigmatic mix of colors that have surely been inspired by his compulsive
studies of the history of art and all of its eras and movements, and by his childhood that was spent most of the time drawing along with the acclaimed plastic artist, his aunt Lia Folch, and by
playing piano and Spanish guitar.
Born in the rural city of Cuiabá and raised in the crowded metropolitan city of
Rio de Janeiro, Andre’s distinct artistic aesthetic was shaped early on by the
colorful light and expansive horizons of Ipanema beach. In his youth, Folch was an athlete of
uncommon ability and talent. He showed an amazing ability with numbers and on the piano, as well. It seemed
that he would take the path of a professional soccer player, or as Scientist,
or even as a pianist, but in a surprising move, Andre decided to pursue an even
greater passion, plastic art, and graphic design. Andre earned a 5 years Bachelor of Science degree
in Architecture, with an emphasis in Fine Art, Painting and Drawing from Bennett College
of Architecture, Art and Design in 1996, Rio de Janeiro.
Andre cites influenced by impressionist artists as Vincent
Van Gogh, the Brazilian artist Eliseu Visconti and the American impressionist
painter Lois Griffel. The "Spontaneous Realism" of VOKA, the British fantasy artist, Howard David Johnson, and the French artist, William-Adolphe Bouguereau had a great influence on his art, as well.
Andre’s work is a mix of Fantasy, Surrealism, Fantastic Realism and Pop art, which creates a unique and colorful, happy style that speaks to all ages. Over the years he has attended art class, and art workshops
around the world with master artists such as Lois Griffel, Jacqueline Synara, Lian Quan Zhen,
Howard David Johnson, to name a few.
Folch’s paintings have been featured in Wagner Jeweller in
Malden, Wagner Jeweller in Somerville, Art Gold in Malden, newspapers' comic
strip such as O Jornal dos Sports USA, as a cartoonist and so on. Andre Folch exhibits in National
Exhibitions in Brazil and sometimes at night clubs and bars. His sought after works are sold in Nationally
throughout Brazil and the USA.
